I still like lists, sooo... here's a list of top ten things I've done in 2011
- Finished my first year of university
The first semester was difficult and a bit of a shock to my system. Everything goes so fast, and so much of your education is left in your own hands, which I'm slowly getting used to after having been spoon-fed (I actually typed in foon-sped and wondered why that didn't sound right, hah) throughout high school. But once I got into the second semester I found that it gets much better, and I actually began enjoying myself and was really motivated by my own interest in the topics I studied. I wasn't quite sure about being a teacher, and if that career path was right for me, but I've warmed up to the idea. By now I'm absolutely sure that I've chosen the right degree, and I wouldn't want to do it anywhere else.
Oh, and I finally realised that I'd been pronouncing "Freud" incorrectly. At least I didn't call him "Fraud", like some other girl did (right after I did a ten minute presentation on the guy, sheesh).
- Gotten my first job
...aaaand I hated it. It was terrible (the workplace environment was, but not the pay. The pay was great). I stuck around for two months and was sent home for saying "fuck you". I never went back.
- Lost my first job
See above.
- Moved to a completely different suburb in a completely different part of Sydney
It's like a whole new world over here. I now live about 40-50 minutes away from where I grew up, and it's so much more culturally diverse. I used to feel weird being the only Asian girl in my grade at school, and now I live in a suburb that's predominantly Asians (and now I feel weird, because all my new friends from this area say I sound 'white'). What's great is that it only takes me 40 minutes to get to uni now, and I'm only 20 minutes away from the city. As opposed to 2 hours to get to uni, and an hour to the city.
- Become even more of an internet addicted introvert
I'd like cats if they didn't make my throat close up.
- Gotten a new step-dad
Hate the guy.
- Read a fuckton of books (and yes, a 'fuckton' is a standard unit of FUCK YOU)
At once point, I was completely obsessed with Jane Eyre. I watched the 2011 film first (with Michael Fassbender, ugh. So attraaaactive) and for a whole month, I never went a day without watching it at least once. Then I ended up reading the book about five times, and, while perusing through my favourite bookstore in the city, I happened to find "Jane Slayre". Yes, that's right. Jane Slayre - a monster mashup of the original, where Jane Slayre is a vampire hunter, who belonged to a family of vampire hunters.
- Learnt how to play guitar
I'm no shredder, though.
- Spent my last year of being a teenager
But it's okay, I'm constantly being asked if I'm 17.
- Acquired new friends (and new enemies)
They're a hoot.
